University of Worcester's Art House

UNIVERSITY OF WORCESTER ART HOUSE

The Art House is a refurbishment of the former County Furnishings building in Castle Street, opposite the University’s main City Campus hub, which was itself a restoration of another of the city’s historic buildings, the former Royal Infirmary.

It has been a landmark building in Worcester since it was built in 1939 as a car showroom for Lord Austin of Austin Motors.

Who Designed the Art House?

GWP architecture worked with Ashley Davies Architects Ltd  to design the building. Their websites can be found below with more information about their work on the Art House. The university worked with contractors called Stepnell to bring about changes to the grade II listed building.

The University of Worcester restored the building, including the iconic clock tower which looks beautifully lit at night. The interior has been transformed into a studio for teaching and, learning and even exhibition space. The University hopes the art house can become an important centre for children's creative camps in the school holidays, as well as attracting local artists.
